Another Day, Another Ride, Another 2 Punctures. Gentle roll around the usual route, but cut short due to a) Being full of cold b) Having one puncture, changing tyre and gathering another slow puncture and c) just to put a further crimp in things the HRM belt died on it’s arse 2 hours into the ride.
Hell – I made it home in one peice, the sun shone mostly, and despite everything, I actually enjoyed the ride. Its here on Strava if anyone cares
Sitting here now, with a banging headache, passing the time until I can stick the sunday dinner on.
Short, sweet, and ended with a hissing sound. Yep – thoroughly enjoyable first half of my normal loop ended in a slow puncture – pulled the tyre but couldn’t find the source of the problem so thought “blow it back up with the same inner tube, it’ll make the hole big enough to find, and you’ll find the glass in the tyre that way. So I refitted, blew tyre up and rode towards home. The buggering thing stayed relatively inflated all the way home – at home, removed things again and ended having to trace the puncture with the bowl of water trick – at which point, I found the tint speck of glass that’d done the damage. Sadly, after a proper look at the tyre, it was really not worth refitting as it was so worn – dropped a nearly new Continental GP4000 25mm on the wheel – the one that I’d pensioned off when I built the Dolan in spring, as it was “a bit close” on the front wheel – it’s pretty much just about “run in” so that’ll stay on there at least until the Dolan get’s its winter vacation on arrival of the Cannondale CAADX.
Strava for the bit of a ride I managed is here – low on miles, time, and most importantly calories to offset any potential Beer consumption this evening … oh dear.
Threw pretty much everything but the kitchen sink into this local loop – every time I came within striking distance of home, I turned back away and put another little 1-2 mile diversion in. Anybody would think I didn’t want to go home…
Only thing that was out of the ordinary was the fact that I had a flat tyre – not by convention means, but that the valve core unscrewed on my rear tyre. I tightened it back up, and 240 strokes of the mini-pump, and we were back in business!
Ride statistics here – not bad for a grey cold windy afternoon, and certainly better than sitting on the sofa getting bored.
And, it’s sharpened my appetite for my Sunday Dinner too… Lamb Shanks in red Wine and Rosemary, Brocolli, Carrots, French Beans and Mashed Spuds I reckon…
